Hi looking for Alan Johnson known as joe by Tony Ashworth and John Butterworth of Heywood Lancs. Alan was in the RAF in the 1970's and was married to Glynis. Alan was stationed at RAF Valley. Alan came from Heywood in Lancashire and used to drink in the Joiners Arms owned by Billy Caldwell. Tony has spent time trying to find Alan. Alan had a brother called Steven and their parents lived on Jackman Avenue in the 1960's 1970's. Does anyone know of Alan and where abouts he is today. The above-named was my uncle. I know he served in the RAF during ww2. My uncle served with the RAF, at least during World War 2. His full name was Ronald Charles Arthur Wickland. According to his marriage certificate of 17 April 1941, his rank was A.C.2 985654 (aircraftsman second class). I do not have any dates of commencement or termination of service. His address on his marriage certificate is given as Liverpool, he married a Sheffield lady actually in Sheffield. This could suggest he was based in Sheffield at the time while serving in the RAF. Following marriage, my uncle was based at Hawarden, near Chester, working with barrage balloons. I would be grateful if anyone could supply me with information regarding his length of service and where exactly he was stationed prior to marriage. Thank you. Andrew Mellor

My mother tells me that my father was a British air force soldier that she spent a weekend with February 19-20 1951. She claims not to remember his name nor any other details about him! She lived in Fall River, Ma at the time and I cannot imagine she was far from there at the age of 18. The nearest military facility is of course the Naval Air station at Newport, R.I, home to the Naval War College. I imagine that there was a very small number of British servicemen present at that time. What do you think? Is there a way to get a list of all British servicemen present at Newport in Feb. 1951?
