| Message: | I am an author currently researching the history and past times of the HALLSANDS HOTEL near Kingsbridge, South Devon, for a forthcoming book. SELWYN ROSE (known as 'Tommy') and his wife MARY (Alice) ROSE (nee GALLAGHER) ran the Hallsands Hotel between 1947 and 1953. Selwyn originally came from Bridgend in South Wales. His sister, Elizabeth Ann ROSE (born 1901) married Lewis JOHNS in 1921. Their daughter Barbara J JOHNS (born 1927, Bridgend) married Herbert HYDE in 1946. Barbara and Herbert had two children: Philip J HYDE (born 1953, Bridgend); and Marilyn J HYDE (born 1955, Bridgend). It is possible that these or other surviving relatives may know more of the HYDE family connection to the Hallsands Hotel. George and Mary had two daughters: Mary K MOORE (born 1921, Bridgend - circumstances unknown); and Elizabeth Joan MOORE (born 1925, Bridgend) who married Patrick G JEFFRIES at Bridgend in 1947. Elizabeth died in 2003 at Bridgend but it is possible that her daughter, Maria S JEFFRIES (born 1951, Bridgend) or other surviving relatives of the MOORE and JEFFRIES families may know more of their family connection to the Hallsands Hotel.
