SELWYN ROSE (known as 'Tommy') and his wife MARY (Alice) ROSE (nee GALLAGHER) ran the Hallsands Hotel between 1947 and 1953. Selwyn and Mary married at Barnet in 1932. Mary also had a sister - NORAH GALLAGHER - who was staioned at a Naval base in North Shields during the Second World War, Norah later married Jack LYNN of Hallsands. He was originally from Sunderland and moved back there in the early 80’s. I know he had a sister called Bernice as I met her when she visited him in London. Percy Mark COX was the hotel's owner from 1937 until his death in February 1945. In 1917 Percy married Elisa A FREEMANTLE at South Stoneham, Hampshire. They had two daughters - Mavis B (born 1920), and Pamela (born 1928, Portsmouth). Pamela married Donald Wildred CRANCHER at Gosport in 1951 - the year before this, she had been appointed to the Board of Trustees and Beneficiaries responsible for the running of the hotel. The CRANCHER family later moved to New South Wales, Australia. Donald CRANCHER died in 2004. There are two children - Helen ('Jane') (born 1955 in Tynemouth) and John (born 1958, Northumberland South). These or other surviving members of the CRANCHER family may know more of their family's history as regards the Hallsands Hotel.
