| Message: | I am looking for anyone who knew my father Albert Jones. He was born 23rd April 1915 and we believe that his father was called Alfred. It is believed that his mother (name unknown)died not long after his birth and his father may have remarried and had two more children- Ted (Edward) and Rose (my father's half brother and sister). Although we don't know where my father was born he was brought up by an aunt who owned a guest house in the Kingsgate-Broadstairs area of Kent. We believed he went to school in the area and he later worked as a porter at Kingsgate Castle (prior to 1939). Sometime in the 1930's he moved to London and met and married my mother Betsy Duthie-Tait (from Aberdeenshire) whilst working in a hotel in Westminster. After being bombed out of London around 1940-2, they moved to Glasgow, and moved again to Fraserburgh around 1946-8 where they lived until 1959. After moving from London Albert lost touch with his family. Whilst in Scotland Albert worked for the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board and was part of the team that introduced electricity to the Isle of Skye and he worked at John Brown's Shipyard on the Clydebank whilst living in Glasgow. From 1949 my father worked away in Birmingham at James Booth's factory in Kitts Green, an aluminium factory which supplied parts for aircraft. In February 1959 the family moved to Birmingham to 22 Ploughfield House, Ladywood. I believe that we moved again around 1971 to 14 Alcott Grove, Tile Cross, Birmingham. After we moved mail should have been forwarded but it wasn't. Three months after we moved my father went back to the old address to check if any mail had arrived but he was told that a man called Ted had called round looking for my father. However, the new tenants of the house couldn't help as to our family's whereabouts. Albert believed that this was his brother Ted. My father died in 1994 in Birmingham. However, a few years before he died (around 1990) he went down to Kent to place an advert in the local paper where he grew up. Someone did respond, we believe a distant relative of his, who reported that all his immediate family had died. If anyone is a relative of my father, or knew him, we would be very grateful if you could get in touch. This is all the information we know about my father and we never met any family so any information about him from family or friends would be greatly appreciated. | |
