Margaret Mackenzie Missing Person

Category: Adoptions
Seeking:  Margaret Mackenzie
Location:  Greater London : Kensington
Message:  Still seeking Margaret (Mary) Mackenzie, putative dob 11 June 1927 (confirmed with GRO). Margaret worked at Shaftesbury Hotel, Monmouth Street (Covent Garden) WC2 from 1951 until early 1956. Prior to that she was manager at Curzon Hotel, Clarges Street, W1. Her birth certificate cannot be found which implies she was not born in UK and, despite many searches and offers of help, no trace of Margaret\'s early years can be found. She declared to Barnardos that she had no nok, both her parents having died and she supported me until I was three and a half years when I lived with the Martin family in Mimosa Street. Several people have been contacted and one Lily Ettel remembered working with Margaret. The others recall Margaret but had no real information. Any shred of information will be so gratefully received and, as you will see, there are several other postings. Thank you all.

Message:  Still seeking Margaret (Mackenzie) my natural mother who worked at the Curzon Hotel, Mayfair as manageress, before I was born in 1951. In that same year Margaret secured a job at The Shaftesbury Hotel (now Radisson Mountbatten) in Monmouth Street, WC2. Margaret lived briefly at 33 Palliser Road and again, briefly, at 68 Baron's Court (nearby). I was born at St Mary Abbot's, Kensington and named Kara Louise Farida Mackenzie and lived nearby at 36 Mimosa Street, SW6 until I was three although I last had contact with Margaret a few months before that time. A few people from Shaftesbury Hotel association remember Margaret but that is the closest I have got to her in all these years and I just hope that someone reading this might just know of what happened to Margaret. She did not visit her GP for about 40 years which leads me to think that she went abroad as she had no family in the UK when I was born. Someone out there please help - some small piece of information may prove to be vital. Many thanks to all.

Message:  Whilst hope is fading I am still searching for Margaret Mackenzie, my natural mother whose putative dob is 11 June 1927 and who worked at (then) Shaftesbury Hotel, London, WC2 now Radisson Mountbatten. Formerly in about 1950 Margaret was manager of Curzon Hotel, Clarges St, London. It has been about 11/12 years now that I've been searching and if anyone has the remotest idea of Margaret's whereabouts then do please contact me. Margaret's positions at the hotel were live-in but she resided briefly at 33 Palliser Road, London, W14 as shown on my birth certificate. It would appear Margaret went abroad about 1956 and my last letter is January 1956. Since 1950s Margaret is not shown to have used the National Health Service and it very much seems as if Margaret emigrated although I cannot find her name on a ship's manifest at that time. If anyone out there remembers Margaret even if they don't know to where she went, please get in touch. I was agred three years when all contact with Margaret finally ceased and I often wonder if Margaret wonders about me, too. I was named Kara Farida Louise Mackenzie (now Judi) although my birth was concealed as Margaret feared losing her position at the hotel. Thank you anyone out there who can help in whatever way and good luck to all those still searching.

Message:  I am still desperately seeking Margaret Mackenzie who left Shaftesbury Hotel (now Radisson Mountbatten), Monmouth Street, London in early 1956 (January). She disappeared from the electoral rolls and it would appear left the country. Prior to 1951 she was manager of Curzon Hotel, Clarges Street, W1. My birth was concealed from all who knew Margaret bar one good friend. If anyone out there remembers Margaret or ever knew anything about her do please get in touch. However small the information it would prove vital. It\\\'s been over 11 years now I\\\'ve searched for Margaret and hope is receding fast but I won\\\'t give up. No birth certificate can be found but her birth was verified through GRO by throwing dates in the air until the right one was hit upon. I have posted on this site before and am just hoping this time I may be successful. Good luck to all searching. Kara (formerly Kara Louise Farida Mackenzie). Thank you. ps. I have filled in the fields as it was a requirement but I have no way of knowing whether Margaret was indeed born in the UK. I was born in London (St Mary Abbot's Hospital) and as my mother was on her own and living in digs at 68 Baron's Court, W1 just before she had me, it seems a little unlikely.

Message:  The last known address for Margaret was Shaftesbury Hotel, Monmouth Street, London at an hotel now known as Radisson Mountbatten which was then The Shaftesbury. Margaret has no birth certificate to be found in the UK which leads me to think she must have been born abroad. Margaret is my natural birth mother and supported me until I was three and a half. My name is/was Kara Farida Louise Mackenzie and now my surname is Grossman (previously George/Wheaton). If anyone out there has the slightest clue as to my mother\\\'s whereabouts I would be inordinately grateful. It has been such and still is, long journey, and still no clues. I just hope Margaret is having a happy life and that we can find each other before it is too late as I feel she is still living and breathing under the same sky. Extensive research has been done via GRO records and various agencies but if you do feel you have something for me please, please get in touch. A happier outcome to all of you out there. Thank you.
